Eothino and Lampadiforia in Skiathos
In recent years local customs "Eothino" and "Lampadiforia" revived due to the common efforts of the Municipality of Skiathos, the local department of Soma Hellinikou Odigismou and the Cultural Center of Skiathos churches. Eothino was a celebrating awakening of the island the day of March 25 at 5 o'clock in the morning with the participation of students in sixth grade of elementary school. The students were chanting marches and church hymns in honor of the genus release. Lampadiforia took place the evening at 8 o'clock, at the same day. Citizens of Skiathos gathers up at the school area where they share candles, singing the same marches and hymns as in Eothino. It is a tradition that stems from the Ottoman occupation era and combines the resurrection of Christ with the resurrection of the genus, paralleling the holy light in the light of freedom.
