Skiathos in Second World War

Unfortunately, Skiathos suffered as well from 2nd International War impacts and so, on September 19th 1943, the submarine "Katsantonis" is inked by German forces on the north side of the island (near Kastro). Only 3 persons of the crew managed to survive and arrived to Skiathos (by swimming) where people treated them.

About a year later, on 23 August 1944 Skiathos was bombarded by Nazi aviation and German army killed 9 people of Skiathos as retaliatory measure for the captivity of one officer.
